In recent history republicans have proven to be very irresponsible with government spending, as evidenced by the addition to the deficit from two years of Trump and 8 years of Bush. Obama was a big government democrat and even he managed to reduce the deficit considerably over his term. It's almost like tax cuts coupled with significantly increased military spending doesn't reduce government expenditure :thinkingface:

growing from year to year. clinton was the last president to actually lower the deficit, and he only achieved this at the tail end of the longest boom economy of the last 100+ years.

this average includes the reocvery from smaller-scale recessions which didnt affect the entire world. what made the late naughties financial crisis so dangerous and so difficult to recover from was that almost the entire world went into recession at once. you didnt have strong demand from europe or brics states to help the domestic industries out.
