May's deal getting thrown out is bad news for the EU - it shows we won't accept a £39bn divorce settlement without some real concessions.

Good luck getting a better deal...

I don't see it happening. UK has stepped on too many toes, far too used to preferential treatment. There is quite some resentment residing in EU politics against this UK government.

True, but this resentment against the UK was there since the day of the Brexit referendum. The EU and its talking heads feel personally insulted by the rebuke from the British people. And they reek of fear, fear that the UK might be better off outside of the EU and start a domino chain of countries wanting out as well. In any case, the brexit vote was a gigantic blow to the EUrocrats' dreams of an "ever closer union".

Yes, the UK has stepped on many toes during the negotiations, they were chaotic, unreliable and sometimes delusional. But let's not pretend like this is the sole reason for the spitefulness of the EU side.

Completely wrong (excuse me)

Starting at; De Gaulle veto(s) in 1963, and he was right, brits only caused problems.

i cant get the translation but....

He's saying that UK has such a strong historical and 'insular" identity it's extremely hard, even impossible to integrate them in EU, because they want to dominate and to get the advantage at all cost.
he put his veto two times...

now let's not pretend the uk was ever the posterchild of a european spirit. they were always demanding special and preferential treatment, and the first ones to opt out when it came to solving EU wide issues.

also, being principled and realistic in your negotiations is not the same as spitefulness. i know that's a common talking point amongst EU haters, but the simple reality is that you can only make the same unrealistic and unacceptable demands and proposals so many times before someone tells you in no uncertain terms to cut the pointless pretending, trying to save face in your own country, while time is running out to make a REAL deal.
