20 seconds of digging into the subject reveal that the comments were responses to harassment that were taken out of context

i'm gonna give her a pass

Her comments were randomly posted to her twitter in reply to no one. There was no context. They were not quotes from anyone but herself. Her entire defense is to claim that she's being intentionally racist because she saw other people being racist. Saying "it was a prank bro" is not even remotely an excuse. Did that work for Roseanne?

Thats quite possibly the single worst excuse given by any of these witch hunted media personalities in the past year. Papa John explained how he was participating in a session on racial language and used terms and told stories he was uncomfortable with at the behest of the PR company to explain his anti-racist beliefs. His excuse was that he was trying to show how against racism he is. And then followed up by claiming he was blackmailed and extorted. And Papa John was felled in disgrace. How is "I was trolling" an excuse?

My favorite part of this whole twitter fallout is the right's inability to see that old tweets being pulled up and roseanne tweeting then immediately being fired aren't the same thing. personally i'm happy to watch the world of social media burn all involved but this consistent inability by you guys is really odd to me. Like when james gunn got fired the roseanne comparisons being made just boggled my mind. Gunn's a wierd dude, but he didn't risk it all with his tweets, he made them years ago in a time in his career where being provocative was his gambit. Roseanne fucked herself over in real time by risking it all while on network television with a history of racist tweets the had to eat crow over previously.

if you guys need any more help figuring out how time works i'm here.

not familiar with the papa john story and i already gave roseanne a pass for different reasons

media personality is an overstatement for someone who was and largely is still unknown

if you wanna know what real injustice is, consider that my favorite music video to spam this forum with got taken down due to it being classified as "hate speech" by snowflakes who couldn't handle a white rapper making a funny video about killing white people

absolutely fascinating how desperately you're trying to make this a thing. some tech writer made a couple of bigoted tweets 4-5 years ago. she claims they were in response to being racially abused herself (for which there is plenty of evidence, mysteriously yet to be uncovered and compiled by /r/the_donald). the nyt let her know in unmistakable terms that such tweets are not acceptable for them, she agreed and showed regret.

how about you closely monitor their tech section for any racial bias or statements, and save your outrage for when she makes such comments as an editor there? oh right, because you know that won't happen, so you're grasping at straws trying to delegitimise them.
just to refute your flawed little analogy: your precious roseanne was only let go after repeated and unprovoked offences WHILE working for her show - those situations aren't even remotely comparable...

Why even go there? they are clearly just bad jokes. "old white men" is a meme, not racism....

calling someone who makes dumb jokes a bigot is no better than calling James Gunn a pedophile because he made some bad kid fucking jokes. it degrades what it means to be a bigot or pedophile and devalues true victims' experiences.

Roseanne, Papa John, James Gunn, Milo, etc, etc and more proximately this ladies own predecessor Quinn Norton, didn't get a pass. Because its not you or me handing out the passes, the accountability comes from above not below. The outrage over the comments themselves might fall to Jeong, but thats nothing compared to what people are expressing to the NYT over its double standard and tacit endorsement of racism.

If we're going to play by these rules were the slightest offense is taken and the offender strung up by the lynch mob, then everyone has to get the same treatment or nobody get it. In a sensible world it would be the latter. But double standards deserve their well earned scorn

NYT: we don't condone this kind of language, we don't accept it EVEN if it's in reply to being racially abused yourself.
goo-shill: they endorse racism.

again, save your fake outrage and flawed analogies for when she does it WHILE writing for the NYT, hack...
