Also I'd say Trump is extremely skeptical of the intelligence community and parts of the law enforcement community.
I wonder why

I don't know if you read it, but I outlined to you a few days ago all he had to do to get some approval from me and a portion of the media figures, which is to confront Putin on some key issues. That doesn't mean you have to make it the central issue(s) of the summit, but at least stand firm.
yes, I read it and agree. It wasnt difficult for trump to do the bare minimum today, and he didnt, for whatever reason.
In the end, no matter if the media frenzy is justfied or hysterical, today was a disastrous outcome for Trump. For perhaps the first time in his presidency, he went into a high-stakes situation where he had to be, or to at least act, tough, and failed to do so. Today, he looked
weak, and that's the one impression Trump cannot afford to give. His entire campaign and presidency, his entire "gimmick" are built around being an "alpha, a tough guy, a master negotiator, someone who fights hard and grinds it out for America, unlike the weaksauce pussy politicians who came before him".
Today, he didnt just inflict damage on his reputation, which is quite bad to begin with and on which he doesnt really rely - no, he also inflicted damage on his brand, and that's something that will really hurt him politically in the long run.
