That's a silly message though, because the potent outrage today isn't about him simply taking a meeting with Putin. It's the many ridiculous things he said.

It's not politics. Just stand up for this country and speak the fucking truth. Obama was able to confront Putin on election interference... why can't Trump?

Not when it was taking place and he knew about it. If Johnny-come-lately-out-of-political-expedience is an award, Trump's earned his merit badges with the string of sanctions, expelled diplomats, {blah blah copy/paste the list of shit here}

Obama warned Putin to stop it. He could've done more, but he had legitimate reasons not to escalate. Trump's appointees say interference is still happening, so even if Trump would accept your bullshit theory of "well, Hillary said something mean in 2011, so we deserved it", he should be an actual president and say "don't interfere on my watch".

Trump passed sanctions because he had no choice... Congress would've overridden his veto. I'm having trouble figuring out why he would take actions to punish Russia for election interference when he doesn't even believe they did it.

what a transparent and lazy spin, as if taking a strong stance against and calling out the PROVEN election meddling of a foreign power was just 'risking peace' - slippery slope much? by that 'logic' no one can fight back against foreign interference anymore if they didn't want to 'risk peace'.

also, it's not about outright refusing any kind of meeting, the criticism concerned a completely private meeting that could (and did) turn out to result in a complete submission to a one-sided narrative, completely dismissing your own country (intelligence services, the vast majority of politicians from both parties...) in favour of russia and putin. they barely managed to stay one step below being so brazenly obvious that even the cult would have started to question who even their actual leader was...
