it's always the same lazy argument: you want equal opportunity for people and taxes to be spent on social programs rather than more war, corporate welfare, and wallstreet bailouts? then you can't own nice stuff because, eh... COMMUNISM! retard logic at its best really, that's what happens when you get your education from FOX news...
https://i.imgur.com/7CeHVVR.jpgThere's a world of a difference between social democrats like the ones we have in europe, and actual socialism. Yes, I agree that even someone proposing social democratic measures is often times labelled a "socialist" in america, and I guess this is what you're referring to with this post. But you have to keep in mind that the political left in the U.S. has gotten a lot more radical in recent years, they have shifted significantly to even more leftist positions.
I dont know where exactly this new flavor of the month movement that calls itself "democratic socialsts of america" (Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez et al) actually stands, but considering the large stigma that the term "socialism" carries in the united states, I dont see a convincing reason why they should call themselves socialists unless they really mean it, i.e. unless they are true socialists and not just social democrats.

About the distinction between "social democrat" and "democratic socialist", a little quote from the wikipedia article:
Quote
Democratic socialism is further distinguished from social democracy on the basis that democratic socialists are committed to systemic transformation of the economy from capitalism to socialism, whereas social democracy is supportive of reforms to capitalism. In contrast to social democrats, democratic socialists believe that reforms aimed at addressing social inequalities and state interventions aimed at suppressing the economic contradictions of capitalism will only see them emerge elsewhere in a different guise. As socialists, democratic socialists believe that the systemic issues of capitalism can only be solved by replacing the capitalist system with a socialist system—i.e. by replacing private ownership with social ownership of the means of production.
