well read that article and you'll see everything that's wrong with politifact, which masquerades as fact checking but goes so over the top with bias that they abandon the pretense
they posted an entire fact check page in which they are attempting to contradict Trump's use of the word "liberate" to describe MS13 being removed from towns
so even though the
facts are that there have been massive national roundups of MS13 members in multiple towns across America in joint ICE/DEA/etc raids;
https://www.ice.gov/news/releases/joint-operation-nets-24-transnational-gang-members-475-total-arrests-under-operationhttps://www.newsday.com/long-island/crime/ms13-gang-trump-central-islip-brentwood-1.18683282politifact ignored the facts, and instead took issue with the characterization of MS13's removal as 'liberation'.
They rejected the purely rhetorical word choice, and then went through their usual bevy of obviously biased sources who would say Trump is a cannibal if they asked them;
>"This is hyperbolic and misleading language," said Jorja Leap, an adjunct professor of social welfare and director of the Health and Social Justice Partnership at UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs.
>"The claim is sort of outrageous and rather difficult to support since no U.S. government or state government has identified a city over which we lost sovereignty or control," said Fulton T. Armstrong, a research fellow at the Center for Latin American and Latino Studies at American University.
Its almost infantile. They are being absurdly hyper-literal with the word 'liberate', except they are themselves twisting the definition of the word, because 'liberate' by no means is a descriptor exclusive to sovereign governance. Even just opening Merriam Webster would give us "
to set free from entanglement or difficulty". A schoolchild might be liberated from the shackles of their homework, an alcoholic might feel liberated by sobriety. Would politifact stop the drunkard in his tracks and insist that its a falsehood that he's liberated from his drinking problem because the intangible concept held no internationally recognized jurisdiction over his affairs of state?
Charitably, they're fucking idiots. More reasonably, they're hacks
