like i said, i agree on that, but if you're not involved in developing or producing an aircraft for example you should have an open bid and buy the one that fulfills the requirements of your airforce. i too would be hesitant to buy american given that's trump's only motivation to aggressively push for budget increases, but i don't mind it either when a country thinks that's best for them...

Stork (fokker) is participating in the developing of the f-35 (mainly the engines iirc), as being part of the deal for buying a few of them. It's an agreement we can't get out anymore. I would like to though, with Trump trying to push US products down our throats, I'd agree that we should use increased NATO funds to stimulate our European economy.

France seems to be the only EU nation that really focuses on having their own military industry supplying their military. Honestly we could do a lot more in the EU. We have FN, Thales, Dassault, Saab, Airbus, etc. Our purchases should be more domestic, if they want us to adhere to that NATO goal so much.

france has a history of aggresively pushing for cooperation with germany in particular, trying to fuse french and german corporations to get know how and capacities into france

they are highly egoistic in that regard so you have to be careful
i do support military cooperation in all aspects however

by the way, this new "european army" agenda macron and merkel are trying to push is utterly unacceptable

they are already discussing that with a european army, we should weaken the requirement of the national parliaments having to approve military missions abroad. and they are already discussing lifting the requirement of unanimosity among the european countries when it comes to going to war with the new, european army. that's a very slippery slope. and it would further increase the EU's tendency to absorb and usurp national sovereignty from the european national states.

I agree with the idea of building a european army, but for the reasons above, i would prefer it to be an addition for the national militaries, not a replacement.

And when I hear stuff like this:
Quote
French President Macron: "I always prefer having direct discussion" ; “For better burden sharing we need more Europe. The big mistake would be for Europeans to increase budgets to buy American or other arms. If we increase our budget it’s to build our autonomy.”

from a French president, it should be crystal clear what he actually means: "the others, and Germany in particular, shall pay more to finance our french interests".

who is in charge of this army? who will decide when and where they might be deployed?

everything points to brussels and the undemocratic EI cant be trusted with an army

i firmly believe in our parliament controlling the army, german men and women shall never be sent to war on the behalf of foreign and unelected EU bureaucrats
