But yes, the incredibly stupid Twitter deal was something that precipitated me looking more into Musk. I'd heard Musk say so many stupid things over the years that I decided to take a deeper look, and came to the really obvious conclusion that Musk isn't that smart. He just dips his fingers in a lot of pies, and hopes he doesn't fuck one up beyond repair.

Solar City - Actively defrauded Tesla investors to bail it out.
Zip2 - All of his code was discarded before being sold to compaq during the dotcom boom.
X.com - All of his code was discarded before being sold to paypal during the dotcom boom.
SpaceX - Burning through a massive amount of money to make marginal improvements on rocket technology. Not even close to profitable. Reusable rockets and all that jazz was already in the works, and his company is making small improvements over time in line with the already existant trajectory.
Boring Company - Digs tunnels at marginally worse dollar per mile rates than other typical tunnel developments, then claims he's doing it with 10x efficiency.
Neuralink - Actively drove out the Ph.Ds in the field who started the company and left it as the current dumpster fire because he wanted to make a bunch of impossible technology.

He has one success, and a massive number of failures that were frankly never possible from the start. Musk is not that intelligent. He's a hype man. Don't get me wrong, having a hype man in business is important. But he's not somebody who's engineering prowess brings value to these companies.

I never said news outlets want to talk to tesla engineers. I said Elon Musk specifically cultivates a cult of personality around himself and giving one-off credit to engineers isn't "giving them credit" the way you think it is.

If you think somebody getting billions of dollars and having a cult of personality around himself is him being demonized... not much I can do to help you.
