So it was supposed to be a short trip, you live in the US, and are stuck there?

that sounds fucking insane, stay safe out there sir.

No, he lives there, and was on holiday (Chinese new year) when the quarantines struck, if I follow correctly.

Two year old article but very relevant right now given that the funding hasn't changed.

This line of argument makes sense when it comes to Africa or South East Asia, but isnt convincing imho when it comes to China. The Chinese really should have the resources to deal with such an outbreak by themselves.

Rumors are rampant that the death toll is far higher than what is published, that people are being shot in the streets, and that they're cremating bodies to hide the death toll. Does any of this sound plausible to you?

i'm late to link. pretty mad at Trump.
i know he needs to prevent over-reaction from masses, but he put way too much focus on the "immediate" threat. CDC comes on just after him and includes the phrases he forgot. "threat risk can change very quickly. we are expecting more cases. we are expecting this to come back next year"
Trump instead focused on a wide-varied number of "global" fatalities from the flu. the flu kills 2:100k. we don't even have 100k cases of the COVID-19 disease, but there are over 3k reported fatalities.

Thx. I follow the news every day and believe that this virus will spread all over the globe it's just a matter of time despite all the measures taken. The reason I believe this is 1) the nature of the virus but also 2) that the economic impact will be considered too great by the money men if we see more and more lock downs happening.

Dp you live in a city that's under lock down atm?

sort of.. up until recently most major cities and the adjacent towns were on lockdown. that's still in effect in Hubei as far as i know.

this virus wont get much worse to be honest. yes it will spread in countries that arent taking it seriously but summer is on its way and global warming will lend a helping hand. itll die down and probably go extinct by mid summer

you underestimate the impact of the billion+ population on resources.
back when this first started all the masks and rubbing alcohol was sold out from every pharmacy where i live by noon. there are about 2 dozen pharmacies within 1 square kilometer of where i live - i checked probably every one. my wife and i got some before everything sold out. but up until about 4 days ago, and i'd been checking daily, there was no rubbing alcohol available anywhere

similarly, in some areas food was in short supply because, out of fear mostly, people literally bought everything they could get their hands on. it hasnt been that bad where i am, still plenty of food.
