This line of argument makes sense when it comes to Africa or South East Asia, but isnt convincing imho when it comes to China. The Chinese really should have the resources to deal with such an outbreak by themselves.
you underestimate the impact of the billion+ population on resources.
back when this first started all the masks and rubbing alcohol was sold out from every pharmacy where i live by noon. there are about 2 dozen pharmacies within 1 square kilometer of where i live - i checked probably every one. my wife and i got some before everything sold out. but up until about 4 days ago, and i'd been checking daily, there was no rubbing alcohol available anywhere
similarly, in some areas food was in short supply because, out of fear mostly, people literally bought everything they could get their hands on. it hasnt been that bad where i am, still plenty of food.
