People are not the enemy policies that hurt people are the enemy

offer better policies with a positive message

be informed, be compassionate, be welcoming

this attitude is extremely naive.

you shiould really look up the term "distributional conflict". what it basically says is that in most cases, benefits and entitlements for one group will necessarily disadvantage other groups since someone necessarily has to pay for them.

for example, when Obama took some funding away from the pension system to pay for Obamacare's expansion of healthcare, the beneficiaries were a very different group from those who were worse off due to this policy. the beneficiaries consisted disproportionately of undocumented persons, while the losers were mostly native pensioners. and then the Democrats cry wolf and accuse the republicans of inciting racial resentment....

I was talking about welcoming to moderates and compassionate to voters even outside the tent and republicans as people not being the enemy.

I see. My bad. My point is still valid though: the distributional conflicts have become so severe and the society so fragmented that keeping up a big tent and not seeing people whose ideas and interests are diametrically opposed to your own ones as the enemy, is getting increasingly impossible.

things are so far down the drain that we wont be able to get rid of the poison of identity politics anytime soon. and I mean both left and right identity politics.

Who is taking off right now in our political climate?

Sensible people are rapidly growing their audiences. The shapiros of the world and all the intellectual dark web whatevers that they jokingly call themselves. The sky is always falling to some but there is still reason and the reasonable out there.

Yeah some days it's pretty scary but this isn't anything we as a country cannot pull together. The YouTube clips and the media sensationalism and the shitty internet comments do not tell the whole story of the people in this country.

Many love the drama and the entertainment but a less loud many still crave those true intellectual debates of ideas without the kardashian frosting on top. The moderates are not extinct and they are still politically powerful and we will see another president in the coming years that draws them in and inspires them and wins and that President won't be extreme or negative in their presentation.
