Can't say I don't agree with this. We should not be wary of becoming too dependent on American arms manufacturing. I'm already pretty disappointed that we made the choice for the F-35 instead of Gripen/Eurofighters. Not that it is necessarily a bad plane, but it is extraordinarily expensive, even for a customer nation.

while i generally agree i think it's interesting coming from macron considering france left the eurofighter program to develop the rafale...

France seems to be the only EU nation that really focuses on having their own military industry supplying their military. Honestly we could do a lot more in the EU. We have FN, Thales, Dassault, Saab, Airbus, etc. Our purchases should be more domestic, if they want us to adhere to that NATO goal so much.

like i said, i agree on that, but if you're not involved in developing or producing an aircraft for example you should have an open bid and buy the one that fulfills the requirements of your airforce. i too would be hesitant to buy american given that's trump's only motivation to aggressively push for budget increases, but i don't mind it either when a country thinks that's best for them...
