Place was a shithole before socialism. I can say the same thing about Somalia...why hasn't spontaneous order sprung up in the absence of government? We can always find nice strawman examples.

We can talk about the socialist EU, that has more citizens, a larger economy, healthier and more educated individuals that are veritably happier and who live longer lives, who experience less crime, less bankruptcies, and if somebody lost their home due to medical bills, pretty normal here, it would be a national scandal.



Yes, absolutely and without a seconds hesitation. I'd mourn for the art, but art is to explore what it means to be human, and if I let the old woman die to save an object, I would no longer be human in any meaningful sense, and could be debasing humanity itself.

But if it is time for her to go it is time to go, nothing I can do about that. Plus, I'm good at saying goodbye.

Except Venezuela isn't a strawman for the dangers of price controls, nationalization, trade barriers, and central planning. Their policies are directly causing many of their problems, as expected. (including the shortage of basic necessities)
The most successful mythical "socialist EU" economies have a strong market economy freer than most other countries on the planet and a strong respect for property rights, while others are financially unstable with drastically lower GDP per capita plus higher taxes.

Go ahead and explain how mentioning whats happening in Venezuela is a strawman and not a legitimate indictment of their policies.

Thats not an exact equivalent, nor did I merely say "nuh uh".
I explained that their shortages were a direct result of those policies. They weren't pre-existing like you suggest, no were they the result of completely opposite policies previously imposed there, or a coincidence. Widespread shortages and long lines for food and other basic necessities were not prevalent before those policies were enacted. Instead those policies have directly caused such problems, as thoroughly explained in various economic literature and theory.
I didn't claim Venezuela was a socialist's dreamland and suggest you move there if you wished to make changes for the better here, or that all socialist measures bring about such low standards of living as people do with Somalia and the free market.(despite all evidence of free economies pointing to the contrary)
The inescapable truth of the bad consequences of Venezuelan policies are still there however. Its direct cause and effect and should serve as a warning for fantastical commies who wish to emulate such garbage in America.
