Except the police check thing. That's true. But I don't see why background checks for adults working with children is a bad thing at all... Here in the UK you need a background check to work with any vulnerable people. I can't imagine it's not similar in the US. Unless you're totally OK with a convicted burglar looking after your mother when she has dementia and potentially stealing all her shit... or a convicted paedophile running your local daycare.
