Trump administration must turn over information about 2020 census questionhttps://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-census/trump-administration-must-turn-over-information-about-2020-census-question-idUSKBN1JT2HLQuote
NEW YORK (Reuters) - A federal judge on Tuesday ordered President Donald Trump’s administration to hand information about its plan to ask people filling out the 2020 census form whether they are U.S. citizens over to a group of states and cities suing the administration over the question.
At a hearing in Manhattan federal court, U.S. District Judge Jesse Furman also said he would likely deny the administration’s motion to dismiss the lawsuit.
The plaintiffs have said that the census question could lead to undercounting in states with large immigrant populations, jeopardizing their political representation and access to federal funds.

The lawsuit was filed in April by 17 states, including New York, Pennsylvania and Illinois, and six cities, including New York City, Philadelphia and Chicago. All of the states have Democratic attorneys general and all of the cities have Democratic mayors.

Brett Shumate, a lawyer at the U.S. Department of Justice representing the Republican administration, said at the hearing that the case should be dismissed because only Congress, not courts, had the authority to review census questions.
When Furman asked whether that would hold true even if a question was intended to undercount states that tend to support a particular political party, Shumate said it would.
“It wouldn’t matter what the intent was behind the question,” he said.
And the Dems are at it again.
Acting like just asking the question will alter the count. Which is not necessarily the case.

Trump to urge colleges to ignore race in admissions: mediahttps://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-education-race/trump-to-urge-colleges-to-ignore-race-in-admissions-media-idUSKBN1JT1HOQuote
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Trump administration plans to encourage colleges to ignore race in their admissions process, abandoning guidelines that called on universities to consider race as a way of promoting diversity, the Wall Street Journal and New York Times reported on Tuesday.
The guidelines, put in place under President Barack Obama in 2011 and 2016, presented legal recommendations that Trump administration officials contend “mislead schools to believe that legal forms of affirmative action are simpler to achieve than the law allows,” the Journal reported, citing two people familiar with the plans.
What the hell are those evil Republicans thinking? Demanding that colleges only allow admissions based on merit. :/
