i agree entirely. however, we'd need to get entirely semantic about this situation, while also taking into account Fender's perspective. I'd rather not poison my brain.
let's all settle on the fact that Pakistan can and has been used as an atypical example of issues "brown people" pose to the western world anecdotally for some time to demonize middle easterners.
i'm not saying you are doing the same, but there's a historical precedent for demonization that's not statistically backed, as you say.
another pertinent example would be female genital mutilation being used anecdotally to deminize Islam, when in reality its more of a subsaharan african issue. child brides are not exceedingly rare in the middle eastern world, but there are clear and atypical hotspots.
that said i doubt fenderp really factors any of this in, he shoots from the hip, and mostly blanks at that.
i'm not sure i have any pinpoint on either. what i can say is that "[country of origin] is not a race" entered the lexicon when Donald Trump made his first speech about mexico sending us rapists. the alt right response was mexican isn't a race in response to it being "racist". i'm sure it permeated in some tumblr post or 4chan previously, but that was it's big break.
I usually default into just dismissing people if their typical response is knee-jerk claims of racism, I might be in the wrong but it's just easier.
