That's not how self-defense works.
You shoot until the target is no longer a threat.
Shooting once, pausing then shooting again would show intent or thought inbetween shots, not defense.
That's why in a self defense situation, you ALWAYS mag dump/neutralize the threat.
However, one would always assess whether the means you chose to defend yourself were appropriate.
Imagine I'd steal a pen from your desk and you'd observe me and shoot me to retrieve it, this would
exceed what is tolerable as self defense, wouldn't it?
Shooting until the target is no longer a threat does not always mean killing someone. If I were a mem-
ber of that jury I'd try to figure whether Kyle had no opportunity left other than killing twice.
