stuff like this is why any federal aid - whether given to states/territories or other nations - should have strings attached. that's the fucking point of a sovereign government providing aid: we give you money and you agree to the terms and conditions.

but if they are asylum seekers who have legitimate claims of seeking sanctuary from persecution in their home countries, why wouldn't they be happy to remain in mexico while their asylum case is heard in immigration court?
