When pharmacy chain Walgreens (WBA) replaces General Electric in the Dow Jones Industrial Average on June 26, there will be just seven companies amid the 30 represented on the index that manufacture industrial products. The rest earn the majority of their money through services, technology, retail operations or innovation—or some combination of all those things.

succinct summary of why prioritizing manufacturing and the stock market aren't lockstep.

supreme court just ruled on Wayfair
states can now charge sales taxes on internet purchases made from companies that do not have a brick & mortar premise in the state, ie amazon will shortly be paying sales tax in all 50 states

how many are even left now?

thought almost all were already charging because of the zon having their warehouses everywhere for "speedier" deliveries

aka slower crappier and more expensive prime even though there is a location every 500 miles

any subretailer on amazon got to skip sales taxes since amazon was just acting as a marketplace not a retailer
even with the warehouses everywhere, they were still dodging taxes on a lot of their business

I'm not an expert but I assume Amazon had been hedging against this inevitability for some time now and that's why they didn't even try to skirt it as they built their distribution centers everywhere
but you can watch their stock dropping in real time;
https://www.google.com/search?q=amazon+stock
it dropped from -0.87% to -1.37% since I've been watching in the past few minutes

1% is still just normal daily fluctuations.

If it dips lower than 5% time to buy for easy money.

oh for sure, them expanding into non-retail markets is the best example. sucking up a tiny market share of things like streaming services and such. If I was Bezos i'd just go on a spending spree and buy a bunch of the retailers themselves, the profits from them will outweigh the taxes and the price of purchase in the long run and the amount of revolving cash Amazon has is drool worthy.
