"I was discriminated against in the past, so I now want someone else to be discriminated so that I can obtain a privilege which compensates for my discrimination in the past" is an ass backwards way of thinking, and highly divisive.

I agree, but I have never seen somebody say that, and I'm 99% sure you haven't either.

It is the basic premise of affirmative action.

If it was it wouldn't have helped Whites get into top universities. (Spoiler: After racial quotas were ruled unconstitutional whites lost ground to Asians)

Just because it didn't work exactly as planned that doesn't negate the motivation.

this.

a complete muslim ban would indeed be offensive and unconstitutional.
Trump's ban of a handful of terror-ridden countries in which the goverment isnt strong enough to provide sufficient vetting of their people in collaboration with American authorities, is not a "muslim ban".

It's all about emotions with both parties, not logic. One party says it's a ban on anyone with a Muslim background and labels it as such. The other party claims improper vetting will lead to 9/11 v2.0.

Extremes are everywhere. Most people want to play in the middle.

The irish were poorer than blacks back in the late 1800's. Now, the Irish are much richer than blacks because the irish didn't benefit from affirmative action. Racism against the irish was much worse as well. Affirmative action does a lot of damage.

And at the end of the day, affirmative action is the remnant of a dying line of thinking and we will be better off when we can abolish it.
