https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-roy-cohn-aids-florida-resort-book-1482672this has to be one of the most ridiculous hit pieces yet, and that's saying something
Only 4 years after AIDS was even coined as a term and only 2 years after HIV was identified, at a time when America avoided it like the spooky gay plague that little was known about, before the activism and public awareness campaigns, Donald Trump hosted a Mar-A-Lago tribute dinner for his gay friend and mentor Roy Cohn as he was in the last few months of dying of AIDS. He had been keeping in check with him as the illness progressed and hosted the party as a farewell for all Cohn's friends to gather and celebrate his life. Newsweeks's book excerpt hot take:
A time when AIDS was so stigmatized that even as he died Roy Cohn claimed to be suffering from liver cancer. A time when even though his homosexuality was an open secret, he wasn't out.
That's their takeaway

Trump, though, found out about Cohn’s AIDS, because people knew, and people talked, and he started pulling legal business from Cohn and transferring it to other attorneys—something he did in the USFL matter in March 1985. Cohn couldn’t believe it. After all he had done for Trump? “Donald pisses ice water,” he said, according to Barrett’s book.
“Donald found out about it and just dropped him like a hot potato,” Bell, Cohn’s secretary, told me. “It was like night and day.”
Kind of amazing that supporters still try to pretend he's a healthy and decent guy. It's just weird at this point. Maybe time to pivot to "he's a sociopath and that's what we need for America".
