Polls are showing a Conservative lead over Labour despite the awful handling of Brexit negotiations and the strong opposition, both internally and in the EU, to Theresa May's Chequers plan.

Corbyn is finished, time for the old man to retire and let a younger, smarter and more charismatic leader take control.

in the british election system, a party with a 2% deficit is very well competitive. and we dont know how the campaign would play out. the last time, when may called for the snap election, the tories had a 20% lead and almost blew it.

although I assume that this time around, labour would get hurt more from splitting the pro-eu vote with the libdems than the tories would from splitting the pro-brexit vote with the ukip.

I disagree. Labour should be leading by a large margin at this point in the election cycle given the fact they haven't been in power for over 8 years and in light of the current Brexit situation.

the tories are dropping the ball on the brexit negotiations, but this doesnt change the fact that both the labour party and the general populace are very torn on this issue. in a normal environment, you'd think that the two parties which have the most unambiguous stance on the brexit, namely the libdems and the ukip, would benefit, but that doesnt seem to be the case.

quite the contrary: it would lead to an all-out intraparty war between the hard brexiteers and the remainers within the tories. and they need May to remain in office until shit hit the fan, so she can be the scapegoat. being tory leader and/or prime minister right now is a losing position.

PARIS (Reuters) - French police arrested more than 100 people after gangs of masked yOuThS stormed through Paris suburbs and the center of Lyon on Halloween night, authorities said on Thursday, following a message on social media calling for a “purge” against police.

In the deprived Seine-Saint-Denis area north of Paris, a sportswear store was looted and young people robbing a grocery store attacked police with acid, according to Denis Jacob of police union Alternative Police.

Yes, we have five, six years to avoid the worst.”

Chuka Umunna, Yvette Cooper, possibly Tom Watson...there’s not slot to choose from that I think would be good.
