the mistake you make is the same one every Elon hater makes. "he takes the credit", no. his investors give him credit, he takes nothing. continually he gives the credit to the lead engineers in his companies. but unlike most capital investors he actually understands the engineering. he has a solid working knowledge of every aspect of a varied range of high tech businesses. he's not the messiah tesla fanboys want him to be, and he's not the Trump-like trust fund pocket book his haters want him to be either.
liberals begged for electric cars and the guy who makes it happen is demonized for getting stock rich by doing it successfully ahead of schedule using the subsidies and programs liberals created. he's Frankenstein's monster, but if it was Dodge or Ford, a faceless corporation reaping the benefits, they'd be lauded as patriots as they cashed in hundred million dollar bonuses. Liberals wanted the big players to divest from oil, they didn't, and an outsider came in, and that made liberals mad somehow.
That's very naive. Elon Musk actively cultivates his image as the lone genius making everything happen and that's been his preferred image long before he was even bought out by paypal. If he wants to give credit and not just feign fake humility then take a lead engineer to a high profile interview. No, he wants credit and notoriety. That's a major draw for him. It's been his thing since X.com where he actively fought with everybody over how they were going to "revolutionize banking".
I am not convinced he has a solid understanding of the engineering. Everything I've seen has demonstrated he's pretty ignorant of basic engineering principles. If you have something tangible that contradicts that then let me know, but the stuff he signs his name on that has zero chance of working is testament to that. He blew a shit load of money on the hyperloop which never had a chance and was obviously impossible to make feasible.
Tesla was already running without him. Ford, GM, and all the other big manufacturers were already actively involved in the electric car space before Tesla. Tesla used a lot of hype to drive market share for an honestly subpar product. It's pretty silly to say he's doing anything ahead of schedule.
He's a capitalist fighting with other capitalists. He's not an engineering hero. He isn't somebody who came from nothing and made their way in the world. He's a capitalist who failed upwards until he had enough capital to invest in a bunch of startups, when those startups failed he got them acquired by pitching them to ignorant venture capitalists, and then he got incredibly wealthy when one of those startups took off. The only difference between him and every other capitalist with obscenely rich parents is that he actively cultivates his public image as the "technical savant who's so smart and revolutionizing the world".
Also, LOL @ your previous post that we demonize Elon Musk types. Elon Musk is one of the richest people in the world and has a massive cult of personality built around him. Even if he totally divested tomorrow he'd remain a billionaire. How is that not an adequate reward? How is he "demonized"? The system is set up specifically to reward the Elon Musks even at the expense of millions.
