They had a mishmash of various texts that didn't even closely correspond to the bible we have now. I don't know enough to go over the textual mistranslations, errors in scribal copying, lacunas, etc. of the Qur'an's oldest copies.
Its pretty simple to understand why the Quran can't and will never be able to be perverted.
The Quran was memorized, word by word, by 1000's of people before the death of Muhammad. To make any changes would be simply impossible. Today millions among millions have it memorized. If a version came to them with a inconsistency, it wouldn't last long before its discarded. This is the method God uses to keep his final word of warning and mercy pure.
