well thats because Congress hasnt raised the federal minimum wage since fucking 2009.
i live in CA and eggs were about 4-5$ but the CA min wage is 16$. federal minimum wage is a measly $7.25! if you live in a red state youre fucked until Congress does something

My understanding is that since cost of living is drastically different wherever you live in the US that a federal min wage doesn't make sense. A floor higher than frigging 7.25 makes sense but the concept doesn't work for the US

well Texas is a red state and red states usually dont give a shit about the quality of life of its residents. im not saying that because im biased, its just true
if a state legislature doesnt introduce its own minimum wage law it defaults to the federal law and that makes it 7.25

it makes sense for the minimum wage to be updated to at LEAST account for inflation and relative buying power. can you imagine not getting a raise, however small, for 9 whole years? its insane lol
