https://www.politico.com/news/2023/10/20/trump-tom-emmer-speaker-bid-00122875So after Jim Jordan got voted out of the race by secret ballot today, and Tom Emmer became the -next- presumptive frontrunner with a big asterisk next to his name, Donald Trump has begun to weigh in with a similar secret-not-secret offensive against Emmer, saying Trump would oppose him as speaker. This of course comes down to Emmer being even further left of McCarthy and refusing to endorse Trump in the primaries. Which of course will leave the Republicans in yet another power vacuum. If Jim Jordan is too far right, and Emmer is too far left, who will have the porridge at just the right temperature?
I still don't see why they're trying so hard to pass over Scalice at every chance. Jordan had his moment, Scalice is just a hair right of McCarthy and willing to appease the far right and isn't tainted by McCarthy's compromising with democrats. If they really try to tar him with that brush, Scalice will just say the democrats fucking shot him.
I'm not going to root for the home boy, lets be real Emmer has a 0% chance of taking the GOP chair, that would equate to an all-out anti-Trump revolution of the party. Emmer is far from a never-Trumper, he's a centrist who has ridden a careful risk-adverse line, sort of like what Klobuchar does in the senate for the DNC. But the GOP won't accept someone who wasn't willing to throw in their lot with Trump at the helm. I mean, unless Emmer shows up tomorrow wearing a MAGA hat and saying 'lock her up' and kissing the ring, but I don't think anyone would buy it for a minute
