Russia had no proper military, moral or economic justification for starting a war of this scope.
As if the last year hasn't shown anything. We have statements from the leaders or former leaders of Ukraine, France and Germany that the Minsk agreements were agreed to entirely in bad faith, that they brazenly lied to Russian diplomats and that the goal of these agreements was only to allow Ukraine more time to be trained and armed in order to fight Russia.
Further, this war has led to a flurry of insane Western pontificating about launching coups and regime changes inside Russia, of breaking Russia up into smaller, manageable ethno-states. (What is it with white people's seemingly genetic desire to split up everything into ethnically pure states, btw?) It has led to the US committing terrorism against it's own allies, and launching attacks on infrastructure inside Russia, banking entirely on Russia's restraint to not respond in kind.
No, this war has vindicated Russia, and if anything shown that Russia played too soft for far too long in it's dealings with Western leaders who have now admitted to and displayed their inability to be negotiated with and inability to show restraint.
