As far as Irving goes, he knew he was pushing buttons, and I really don't care at all, but if you want to keep your job... probably don't try to piss off your employer lmao. Especially when they've made it clear they don't want the drama, what organization would?
I feel the same way I did about the Kaepernick fiasco. It really doesn't mean shit to me what he posted, but the organization was well within their right to shitcan him.

I don't know what he posted, so I just assume that it's politically controversial. However, don't Americans have the right to express their political beliefs without the fear of losing their jobs?

It's not thought police lol, the government isn't arresting him for what he posted. Which is why this whole thing is a non story.

If he's being coerced to stop saying certain things or risk losing his job, then it's not right. Doesn't matter that it's not done by the government.

A little out of touch with reality if you think you're immune to consequences from your employer for saying stupid/doing shit that hurts/impacts the company/brand

I’m sure the employer is protected and has a clause in his contract for situations like this.

I guess it depends on your definition of "stupid shit that hurts the company". This is so vague that it can be interpreted to mean anything that your boss doesn't like.

Exactly.

You signed a contract, there is without a doubt in my mind a section that has to do with integrity / representing the brand

Exactly.

So....you think it's ok that bosses can fire employees for saying things they don't like?

If it breaches the contract yes

He also hasn’t been fired

So...the contract literally says, you cannot say things the boss doesn't like?

Basically every business has a social media policy you have to agree to nowadays.

There's been some right-wing influencers who have defended Kyrie, but they just lost the election so I'm thinking they are out of touch with voters.

Probably not verbatim because that sounds like a high school student wrote it

Employment contracts generally have a “code of conduct” section or something of that nature.

If the employer believes it’s been breached they have multiple paths they can take.
