Thats naive thinking

Russia has like 60% influence on USA elections, by using its network of trolls and agents.
Every USA president candidate is now taking it into account.
"You want to get elected? Stay friendly with Russia regime. Or at least neutral"
Its a huge conflict of interest, because the US president is supposed to work for USA, and not for the Russia regime.
Of course from time to time there is a real hero, like mr Biden, who somehow win elections, but it doesnt change the overal situation.

Strange, I seem to recall chants of "lock her up" all over a certain political party.

That chanting was a stain on American politic's and is a perfect example of the erosion of civilized behaviour in politics, perpetuated by Trump. To be fair Hillary Clinton is far from a Saint herself.
