Wokeism has deliberately been pushed by the global elites in the wake of the Great Recession. It was an answer to Occupy Wall Street and similar movements which popped up during the early-2010s. It's true purpose was to deflect the pent up anger and political energy on the left toward social and cultural issues which have no impact on corporate bottom lines. Furthermore, it divides people and deepens preexisting divides, which is in their interest since a divided populace is easier to control. And last but not least, the embrace of wokeism by parties from the left side of the political spectrum makes them unpalatable to a significant chunk of the electorate.
In this sense, wokeism is working like a charm, particularly since most lefty NPCs don't even realize how corporate interests have coopted their politics.
