Lobotomies are a cure for anxiety, paranoia, depression, and not drooling.

I don't think the concern is for kids that will genuinely become transgender later life. They would definitely benefit from it.

If you could trust the people who push children to transition to screen properly and we were assured they aren't going to fuck up a bunch of normal kids that simply dont conform to traditional gender sterotypes (gays, tomboys etc) then there probably wouldn't be any opposition to this.

correct. people often equate gender specialist therapists to a brain surgeon. when in reality brain surgeons make mistakes like any doctor but are more qualified to do their job than say a general surgeon is. same goes for gender therapists. however brain surgeons work on 3d scans of the brain to locate issues and map their surgery. gender therapists are working on interviews with a developing and deeply impressionable mind in an ever changing field of medicine. all stemming from the branch of medicine that tosses pills at people to approximate healthy brain chemistry with a known percentage having seriously altering side effects and issues.

Which is why I couched the question in a way to exclude those concerns so i can see if opposition is purely ideological or based on evidence.

The former I can just point out they don't want what's best for kids. The latter we can have a conversation.

the discussion is simple, are the benefits of reassignment surgery so positive that it outweighs the potential negatives.

on the topic of puberty blockers and hormone therapy it seems to be a resounding yes, based on evidence, common sense, and most importantly reversibility of the process.

on reassignment surgery we lack the evidence to make a good call imo, common sense tells me its better to wait, and there is a serious issue when it comes to reversing the process.

it just seems like an unnecessary risk with some upside potential for most, and catastrophic and irreversible downside for some. fine and dandy for adults to take on those odds, it's a free country. problematic for children, especially when we look at cases like divorced parents disagreeing and the court deciding the pro-reassignment parent wins.

also a bit hard to have an open and honest when if you come out as a trans person against it sharing your story you're made a pariah and are left only with interviews on fox news where they tokenize you for views. "your story may be true but think of the ammo it gives our enemy" is something i really detest.
