I can understand why the parents feel the way that do, at least in terms of their point that many white mass shooters have been stopped and brought into custody rather than being shot and killed.

Can you provide evidence supporting this? Genuinely curious if these numbers are true or if it's just the media feeding the fire.

I don't know that there is the kind of data to confirm or refute it, but high-profile incidences, when compared together, can or do paint a certain tendency.
