I used to be a free speech absolutist but it's clear that Americans have become so stupid that the good ideas, truth, etc. will NOT trickle to the top and win. Something needs to be done about that. Frankly, we just need to get rid of anonymization on the internet. That will go a long, long way.

I'm glad that DHS is finally stepping up its game but I'm pretty skeptical of any implementation.

Free speech and the exchange and challenging of ideas. They only function when ignored. Confronted they fell apart and cry.

This argument almost makes itself. An unaccountable entity inevitably made up of flawed, biased, and self-interested people with agendas having the power to arbitrarily deem what is truth or not, is bad.

I can't believe this even needs to be said, but here we are in D2JSP where there is a collection of Leftoids and other weirdos who might as well be DHS-sponsored bots.

I don't think their job is to determine what is truth and what is not. Their job is to determine if nefarious entities are lying and/or intentionally misleading with selective facts and if it actively harms national security. If it does harm national security, they need to determine the correct course of action. Is it censorship? Is it debunking? Is it clarification? Each scenario requires a separate solution.

We need less sunny/jessis and more funding for public education

Every course of action you describe is subject to all the factors I described. Determining who is nefarious and how, what constitutes harm to society, who is "lying", it all goes back to the fundamental problem of government appointees making all of those calls unliterally. And no recourse offered to the victims of DHS's judgement which is an alarming violation of civil rights.

I hear even Gigacucks like McCarthy and McConnell have "declared war" on the Ministry of Truth. You know that even with those insufferable dorks show that kind of nerve, the Ministry is going to face some serious headwinds.

People make calls "unilaterally" all the time in our government though so I don't think that's a valid argument. As long as there is proper oversight, this shouldn't be an issue. We know exactly who will have oversight from both the IG and the appropriate legislative committees so you know exactly who needs to be pressured if something goes awry.

Anyway, America is significantly weaker than Russia and China in this regard so we absolutely need to defang these countries.
