Honestly neuralink isn't even pushing new tech. It's recapitulating stuff people in the BCI field have been doing for a while and slapping a big tech website on it. The pushed this out onto biorxiv a few years ago (https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/703801v4) and I remember the field kind of laughing at musk for being an idiot. The guy spent millions to build a fancy tetrode which is cool but not something incredibly novel.

They are pushing forward to send electrical signals into the brain, increasing the amount of electrodes. And trying to go deeper.

I guess the first researches are on the implentation itself:

It's super invasive btw

also not novel.Tetrodes are a thing, their innovation might be number of channels/size of the device but it isn't by any means a massive leap forward on current technology. Neurostimulators have been a thing for decades.

It's mostly about engineering progress IMO, i hope you understand that. Then the essential political question

Not about a "uuuh nothing new".....

Electrical car were "invented" 130 years ago. Active noise cancelling exists since 50's but only started to be applied in the 80's. etc

I understand what you're saying, but it isn't a great leap of engineering progress. They made recording devices a little smaller but lost single cell resolution as a result. If they can solve that problem maybe it'll lead to something new, but right now they've thrown 100 million at a problem to make a small hardware improvement.

I'm just telling you what people in the neuroscience field think. They think Elon has over-hyped an incremental improvement in hardware, and essentially ignored all the work that's been done on BCI to date.
