Like someone else said, contemporary white people did not enslave anybody. They should not be held responsible for what their ancestors did. The son should not bear the iniquity of the father, and all that.

Also, I acknowledge that slaves did help grow the economy and that white people benefited from this. Although so did other minorities but we don't hear people talk about making said minorities pay reparation too, probably because targeting white people is more lucrative, owing to the fact white people tend to be so much wealthier. But anyway. My point is, black people also benefited from white people. For example, they received education in schools funded and operated by white people. They received healthcare services from hospitals maintained by white people. They drove on roads built and kept by white people, and many more. So, now it's a matter of tallying things up to see who owes who more. And I would venture to say that we would find blacks and other minorities in huge deficits, because white people contributed to society far more than blacks and minorities did.

If we trace the ancestry of the people responsible for operating the triangle trade and place the financial burden squarely on them, I think the ruling class of America would suddenly want to sweep the whole reparations thing under the rug forever.
