There are many, many variables at play. If all other variables are equal and we can show that wealth would have no impact on the probability or rehabilitation, then they should be treated equally.

That's not really the case here. The judge is saying that the resources available to the man (not just wealth, but family support!) have a SUBSTANTIAL impact on the probability of rehabilitation.

Wealth/privilege should not be a determining factor in lighter sentences is the only point I’m making here lol. That is exactly why we live in a country with systemic racism.

Needless to say the Judge made a piss poor call presumably due to being paid off or through the mans major influence in Delaware. He didn’t even bother paying reparations to the family as a billionaire and even his counselor said he made little to no progress. Using the excuse of him not faring well in prison and “family support” to get him out of jail is so ridiculous it’s funny

He can't because your team keeps cutting funding for prisons :(

House arrest plus treatment is the most humane option especially since it's on HIS dime and not society's.

I didnt think itd be possible to rape a 3 year old child and walk away free but it seems its possible when you're worth billions

His lawyer, calling the 6-foot-4, roughly 300-pound Richards “a somewhat gentle person,” argued he “would not fare well” in jail. Hours later, Richards walked away from Delaware Superior Court a free man. He pleaded guilty to a charge of rape in the fourth degree, paid a fine of $4,395 and promised to attend a high-end treatment center in Massachusetts.

Judge Jan Jurden, who presided over the case, had initially considered sentencing Richards to eight years in prison; ultimately she gave him eight years of probation. “I have concerns about this, because arguably, you should be [in jail] for what you did,” Jurden said during the sentencing. “But I think you have significant treatment needs that have to be addressed, and you have very strong family support. So unlike many unfortunate people who come before me, you are lucky in that regard, and I hope you appreciate that.”

lmao what a fucking joke. he is going to do it again and just be smarter about not getting caught

If he can be treated, then we should focus on rehabilitation instead of punishment. The grim reality is that minorities struggle with rehabilitation due to their upbringing and other external factors. Why should someone who CAN be rehabilitated suffer because of a broken system?

I disagree. You can't reward criminals. I might as well go out and do the same thing.

You might as well rape a 3 year old if you don't face more severe consequences? WTF?

We're not rewarding criminals either. We're just not punishing them as hard as the people who have no chance of being rehabilitated.

Anyone that believes rehabilitation is/should be an option or that it even works must not have children or actually thought how they would feel if it were their child that was a victim. You would lose your fucking shit. If you don't feel the urge to murder them when you find out they get to enjoy their "punishment" outside the walls of a prison, are you even really a parent? They probably don't know anyone that has suffered sexual abuse as a child either. You wanna talk about rehabilitation, how about the rehabilitation that the child will need the rest of their life. They deserve nothing less than the death penalty, if you disagree then I hope for the sake of the offender its your child next time since you're so forgiving, they might get to enjoy life. FOH
