i have a lot of hope for society, that one day, not so near in the future, a disease more serious than covid will just thanos snap out anyone unwilling to make common sense concessions and we can then prosper in the world they and their mountain dew addicted rotten toothed children leave behind.
we'll replace the jobs they can no longer do with robots. burger flipping, road construction, and assembling robots.
we'll put their trailers into a trash compacter without even combing through them for personal belongings that may be of value, because there are of course none worthy of the effort.
social security will be fixed over night, and we'll distribute the funds they so graciously left behind to decent human beings, now unburdened by healthcare because universal healthcare will be passed unanimously by the senate of 98 democrats and 2 independents who only ran as a green party candidate to look cool.
lacking surviving estate holders they will be cremated and their graveyards will not be 6 foot spaced gravestones but instead a single pillar monument ala a war memorial will be errected, not containing their names or birth/death dates but simply their initials. not even punctuation or delineations for Junior will be made.
soon after the event itself will be removed from textbooks so the next generation need not even be troubled with learning of their existence. the robots were always here, and even helped the north win the civil war. "whats the civil war" a starry eyed youth asks inquisitively. "oh, nevermind. i misspoke" the nonbinary teacher of History of Sexual Identity responds, a wry grin on Xer face. "nothing at all". The child is confused, but confusion they have learned is a feeling one gets when content. They'll sleep this night blissfully unaware of what the world once was, as they always have.
