Then it’s time to vote on it. Running away from the vote because you know it will essentially stall the bill is undermining democracy.

no. voter disenfranchisement is undermining democracy. you're projecting hard by ignoring the action and exclusively focusing on the REaction.

this. u argue your best, then you vote, even if you lose.

this attitude by the Dems in texas is like forfeiting a game against the state champs because you'll lose, but also not notifying them and just not showing up.

What would you call the current attempt to massively restrict voting by Republicans?

Id call that undermining democracy.

State constituents voted in a party majority. A minority hiding from a vote to just stop any laws they disagree with is counter democratic.

Like it doesn’t matter if democrats where trying to push a law and republicans did this. It’s a shitty technicality that negates the will of the majority of people of that state.

The way I understand it, it's not even forfeiting but knowing they'll mop you and literally not showing up time after time and saying hey you're not champs until we play.

it's not "any laws they disagree with" though, you're being dishonest there. this is one specific issue that will impact every future election by perpetuating a massive, UNDEMOCRATIC injustice. you know that (that's why you continue to ignore the actual substance of the bills in question), everybody knows it, and this whole thread is just a silly attempt to paint the guys trying to PREVENT VOTER DISENFRANCHISEMENT as the bad guys, lol. it's transparent, it's lazy, and it's intellectually dishonest. guess just par for the course for our right wing crowd...

restricting voting rights isn't undermining democracy if it's democratically supported.

its stupid, the law is ineffectual, and Texans are idiots for thinking it's going to "stop the steal" in the future, but not inherently undemocratic if supported.

the problem is "restricting voting rights" is a buzzword that people react to emotionally.

A large chunk of these "massive, democracy-undermining" restrictions are just a rollback of the expansion of voting rights which took place during the pandemic. Covid gave Democrats cover to change voting rules in a way that benefitted them, and now they're calling it an "assault on democracy" when Republicans try to go back to the status quo ante.

I would agree with them if their criticism was actually focused on the parts of the Republican bills which go back further than the old status quo, like the stuff with handing water to voter queues in Georgia, but they decry even really benign stuff which only brings us back to where we left off in 2019 as 'undemocratic'.
