My only problem with this is that it isn’t a pig mobile.

But also I think it’s funny that people like you want to force taxpayers to spend $80,000 a year housing someone for $500 in property destruction. Big government and fiscal irresponsibility as long as both target minorities you don’t like is the entirety of your ideology.

What about people in NYC getting aggravated assault felony charges downgraded to a trespassing charge with 0 jail time?

Petty crimes like turn-stile jumpers need to be thrown in jail because if you don't, you invert the very fabric of civilization. You can't teach people that they will be rewarded for uncivil behavior. If it one of those inconvenient truths that can only be proven over the long term - not the short term.

I disagree. Just send the bill to white liberal snowflakes who want to be soft on crime. It's a win win win situation.

The rationale is that being sufficiently tough on crime will deter criminals from not just the felonies but also the minor crimes. By this logic, incarcerating X persons at $80k/year would be worth it if that prevents 20*X petty crimes.
Someone following this line of thought is, of course, stuck in the 90s clinging to a discredited approach. In reality, it's far more complicated than that.

Generic tough on crime policies are not effective unless they're coupled with social work, rehabilitation programs and improving the social conditions underlying the crime. (Which is what happened in NYC during the 90s: gentrification and an improved local economy drove poverty down, and that was the ground on which Giuliani's zero tolerance policy could succeed.)

Yeah. "Tough on crime" just increases crime, basically.

"Soft on crime" is no solution either, let alone "no enforcement at all for anything short of murder/rape".
