Space/population density was never the problem with Africa, food and water are. When places which could barely feed their population thirty years ago have absolutely bonkers growth rates and quadruple their population within 50 years, that's just a recipe for disaster. Nature's way of regulating overpopulation of a particular species in a particular place is mass starvation until the pop size is in balance with the food/water availability again.
