One is that the right has never been particularly against racism, and so the backlash against being PC has served as a good cover to say racist shit under the guise of "Just saying facts the PC people don't like". The second is that the left's understanding of racism has become more nuanced, and the reaction to that on the right is "HA YOU AREN'T TOTALLY IGNORING RACE THEREFORE YOU ARE RACIST!".
