Beating and spanking have different meanings to me. Beating is more of a thing of abuse, while spanking is discipleship that is never done out of anger. If you are angry when you spank your child, then you shouldn't spank. You should spank only because you love your child and want him/her to learn from this experience. That is the whole purpose of spanking - to teach them about the consequences of their actions so they will learn to respect their authorities when they are adults.

i would say a good majority of the population that has kids are not fit to be responsible adults anyway. That's the root cause, I've had friends who matured through the square life by having a kids, job, house wife etc but they went through a trial and error stage where their kids had to endure irresponsible parenthood. Bad habits and psychology was developed during this time which would show up later in life. After they gone through the ringer they are more suitable to raise children. So beating or not your kids is simply a question why do you have to resort to violence in the first place. IF you had a few brain cells to begin with you would know that internet and food are x10 more powerful then beating anyway, among many of the positive reinforcements you can do.

To me its a cultural issue. Most of these stories of kids getting beat (aside from the obvious direct abuse from alcoholic parents etc) come from parents who are risk-averse. Especially if their socio-economic situations are not good, they're willing to mold their kids in the way they feel will set them up for success (or atleast that's how it's justified and not seen as child torture).

The fastest way is by hitting them and instilling obedience and fear.
