Menthol cigarettes are also smoked disproportionately by black Americans. A study by the National Institutes of Health found that over 29% of menthol smokers were black, whereas around 3% of non-menthol smokers are black. A proposed ban heavily targets that demographic.

It's all fun and games until the government tries to ban something you may enjoy. Leave this crap alone. I don't smoke cigarettes but enjoy cigars. I don't even smoke infused or flavored cigars, but feel like people should enjoy the right to choose. My body, my choice right?

Seems like an ineffective approach and a bizarre false benevolence in 'caring' about the health of Black people. In therapy there's an expression that we "don't take anything away from a client without having a better alternative to offer", and the parallel for me here is that prohibition only takes away while providing nothing. The underlying social conditions that lead people to smoking, whether they be mentholated or not, continue to go unaddressed.
