Interesting. Can't say as I know Caitlyn Jenner's policy stances, so hard to say one way or the other.

Would be interesting if he actually won though. He is trans, he did have the reassignment surgery, aka "went all the way". He ticks too many boxes that progressives claim to care about. Would they be able to call him the devil simply for being a Republican?

TBH though, I'm still not convinced the recall will happen, and if it does, the way it works is screwy at best. So assuming there are enough signatures, it goes to a general vote. There are two questions. First, should he be recalled, Yes or No? Second, if more than 50% of voters vote yes, who should replace him, followed by a list of names and the ability to write in a candidate. Here's where it gets bizarre. There can be 20,000 candidates. Say 10 million Californians vote to recall him. And the candidate pool is so wide that no candidate gains more than 1000 votes. Well, if the candidate that gets 1000 votes has the most? They're now governor. It's honestly a truly fucked up system. And frankly, I'm not convinced California will vote to recall him anyway.

Null Vote btw.

You made it a point to call her a he, huh?

🤣

Interesting plot twist. I read the headline and was like ehh whatever, but finding out he’s running as a republican is hilarious.

Also not sure what tcock is crying about. He’s been cheerleading Democrat power grabs for awhile now. This is what republicans ‘adapting’ is going to look like. In the near future when democrats have DC, Puerto Rico, Georgia, etc all go blue they’ll be forced to adapt with these type of abominations to stand a chance.

To the best of my knowledge, Caitlyn Jenner has been a Republican for the majority of his adult life. If you go back to the Comedy Central roast of Baldwin, he was getting ruthlessly mocked over that fact.

No? Self-mutilation does not make a man a woman. He is a man regardless of whatever surgeries he has allowed. Note I call him Caitlyn? A legal namechange is a legal namechange. You cannot change your biological gender. He is a man. Though at this point, "eunuch" may be more fitting. Eunuchs are still men though. Just damaged men.

I'm really torn on this candidacy.

On the one hand, California is such a deep blue state that even the best possible conventional Republican (say San Diego mayor Kevin Faulconer) probably doesnt stand a chance of winning the gubernatorial race, even in a recall election in an off-year. The CAGOP only has a chance if it throws a hail marry, and a transgender celebrity with a huge social media outreach might be just that. Running a transgender woman in such a high-profile race might also mitigate the image of the GOP as being categorically reactionary and hostile toward sexual minorities. It is also an election with no other races on the ballot, so if Jenner flames out as a candidate, there are no down-ballot ramifcations. Conversely, downballot Republicans might really need Faulconer's coat-tails in 2022.

On the other hand, Jenner has no relevant experience at all (Trump was at least the head of a multinational billion dollar corp) and could be a disaster if elected governor and thus inflict permanent damage to the GOP brand. She could also be a controversial and unhinged candidate and thus inflict damage even without winning. And last but not least, running such a candidate could risk the inroads the GOP had been making with unwoke minority voters in 2020. Both the party's white working-class base and its potential new latino voters probably want a party which fights back against transgenderism instead of embracing it.

Another factor to consider is that ugly case of vehicular manslaughter Jenner was involved in, back in I think the 90s. Dems are definitely gonna bring that up.

All in all, I say: grab the popcorn and let the freakshow begin! :bouncy:

what did carlin say, "When you're born you get a ticket to the freak show. When you're born in America, you get a front row seat."

I support the recall because Newsom is way too far to the right and caters too much to business interests. Candidates like Jenner just ensure a real leftist can beat Newsom.

Didn't the last California Governor recall result in the Governator gaining the seat? Genuinely curious why you think the left has a better shot than the right on this one. Recalls are a shaky thing, because it's just two questions. Should he be recalled, and if over 50% vote yes, then who should take his spot with a list of names that can be hundreds long. The name recognition factor may very well weigh very heavily in Jenner's favor. On the flipside, if it's a massively watered down field, it'd very likely weigh heavily against "real politicians" that the majority have never heard of.

The Democratic incumbent back in 2003 was significantly more unpopular than Newsom is today. And California was a significantly more light-to-medium blue state compared with it's present, deep-blue hue.

If I had to put numbers to it:

chance for the recall to go through: 40%
chance for the Republican to win if there is a recall election: 25%.

So all in all, I would say there's a 60% chance that Newsom remains governor, 30% chance for a more leftist Dem succeeding him, and a 10% chance for a Republican to follow the footsteps of the Governator.
