If your bar is a massive city and its entire surrounding area I bet we could find some.

https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2012/12/mass-shootings-mother-jones-full-data/

So out of 121 "mass shootings", 3 of them were in that area, or 2.5%, which contains about 3.5 million people (Denver + Boulder metropolitan areas), or a little over 1% of the total U.S. population. So it's about twice as likely that there will be a mass shooting.

Doesn't seem to be particularly out of the ordinary. Larger areas with more people will naturally have more violence since one of the major determining factors for violence is density.

Density is an excuse for the real problem. Tokyo is 10x denser.

Firearms are virtually impossible to get in Japan. Glad to see you supporting strong gun control comrade.

No one said that it isn't? I'm just pointing out that white culture is the reason for these mass shootings. Are you going to tell Ben Carson to his face that it's okay to be black even though gangs exist? What an asinine thing to say.

lel

I'd feel mighty dumb bringing up black culture as a reason gangs exist to Ben Carson. Gang violence isn't even a solely black thing, there's a ton of gang violence that's associated with biker gangs, Mexican gangs, prison gangs, etc. You're right, that would be an asinine thing to say.

I don't even know what white culture is. I'm white and I probably have less in common with you than my black neighbor who's also a foreigner and is religious (muslim).

Guns are also accessible in Hawaii and Idaho, but there is no gun violence there because the police is allowed to kill violent thug culture.

No big cities in either of them. Boise is 226k, Hawaii is less than the population of Denver in its entire state.

You're a foreigner and will never be considered culturally American so that's probably why.

White people raised in this country were raised to think that they are snowflakes. THAT is the cornerstone of white culture. This manifests itself in various ways: safe spaces, trigger warnings, incels, etc.

121 mass shootings but many of those were not national-level coverage. Like if I say Columbine, there's an immediate event that comes to 99% of people in the US.

Idk maybe it's my recency bias but the 3 I highlighted have been very high profile/high publicity cases. Only other shootings i remember off the top of my head are sandy hook, florida club, vegas shooter atm.

Metro Honolulu has a population of 1m and is quite dense in large parts. Definitely a big city.

What do you mean by "no violent thug culture in Hawaii"? Watching 'Hawaii Five O' has taught me otherwise!

Rates of every sort of violent crime are lower in Japan than the U.S. by several magnitudes. Firearm access cant explain that. Likewise, places like Switzerland or Finland have rates of private gun ownership comparable to that of the U.S. yet significantly less victims of gunshots per capita.

The tldr is pretty easy and obvious: local culture, social safety nets, strong communities, drug usage and gun accessibility are all important factors influencing the rate of gun violence in a country. The United States suffer from a particularly toxic combination of these factors: a culture glorifying violence, big poverty and inequality, a weak social security system, lots of addicts and many disrupted, dysfunctional communities are combined with super easy access to firearms. The unsurprising result are shooting sprees every other week. Tackling just one or two of these factors will mitigate, but not really solve America's problem with gun violence.

Not trying to write a thesis. The point was to explain why the detroit and boulder areas have 2.5% of shootings and ~1.5% of the nations population.

Not really hard to say, it's got a super dense area so it's going to have more violent crime of all kinds. Endless said Japan is more dense, I pointed out guns are virtually impossible to get there, he said Iowa and Hawaii, I pointed out they're far less populated.

Yes, I know, I read your conversation... ...

It was badly missing the point, so I quickly mentioned the important stuff to steer the conversation in a more productive direction.
