Not controversial at all. Caricatures and generalizations in art as a method to show different nationalities, cultures, etc. is as old as art itself. Calling such things controversial is to call art itself controversial.

Take that picture you posted of the "stereotypical american" and have it dropping bombs on Syria while shouting "America, Fuck Yeah!" and there'd be a general understanding of what you're attempting to express. Does it ignore that the majority of Americans are not obese, and some 30% are not even overweight? Sure!
