Cruz seems like one of those Shapiro types who are slightly above average intelligence but were born into privilege so they think they're 150+ super special snowflake for succeeding.

i'm not sure about cruz. unlike shapiro he might actually be smart, but it's hard to judge because everything he says is so disingenuous. he's as fake, unlikeable, and smarmy as it gets. he has no natural charisma or authority whatsoever, and comes across as just extremely awkward in almost every situation. none of that necessarily means stupid though.

of course the misogynist right just assumes he's smarter than AOC, who they are desperately trying to brand as stupid (while at the same time unironically elevating actually and dangerously dumb people like donald trump, george w. bush, sarah palin, rick perry, herman cain, lauren boebert, marjorie taylor greene...), even though she is clearly considerably smarter than all of those, and definitely not dumber than the average career politician in washington.

Republicans trying to paint anyone as dumb just gives me a laugh, the vast majority of them believe in an almighty loving god that up until roughly 2,000 years ago was smiting people left and right, sending down plagues, having old men part seas sending his son to get nailed by dudes etc and suddenly after being around for all 6,000 years of flat earths existence he just starts working in mysterious ways..

Except that Cruz does not come from a notably privileged background. His parents were small business owners (data processing services for the oil industry), divorcees and again divorced their marriage with each other. His father was a political refugee from Cuba, his grandparents were a salesman and a teacher.

AOC's father was an architect, she spent the vast majority of her childhood in posh Yorktown Heights in wealthy and uber-woke Wechester County. She only lived the first 5 years of her childhood in the Bronx. AOC's "mamacita from the Bronx who's making ends meet as a bartender"-shtick is a very effective branding, but not really reflective of her vita.
