COVID will pass. It's an important issue, but it's not even close to the most important IMO. I do believe we need to do more preventative work in preparing for the next one, but there are more imminent concerns.

I've long believed education reform is the single most important issue in the country, but with the increased violence on both sides and extremism finding mainstream support at every level of our political system, i think revamping how we elect our leaders is something that needs to be done immediately before the country rips itself apart.

There are a couple of simple things that could be done, but I'm sure one side would never agree to them.

1. Put a cap on spending for elections
2. Redefine who/what can contribute funds (corporations have never been people)
3. Punish both sides heavily for slander. As a representative of the country you should be held to a higher standard, and baseless lies or manipulation from either side should not be tolerated.
4. Require an agreed upon 3rd party to fact check adds before going out.
5. Make politics about politics. Stick to the issues, or if you're going to slander one another keep it to the debates at least.


Until we fix the political system, Republicans will continue to vote for batshit crazy extremists who are good at manipulating their easily controlled emotions.

While Democrats will continue to push through fucking puppets, who will ask how high when the party says to jump, since no one can compete with the funding and influence received by their chosen pony.

Fix those problems, get us some real politicians, kick the fucks out in the house/senate who have failed to do their job over the last 4-12 years, and let's get the fuck on with it. A huge problem with this is still all the money that'll be funneled into lies via Twitter, Facebook and other social media, but we need to make a dent into this however we can, as this level of escalation is not sustainable.

You do realize that the US has helped the government to have Biden and Trump as your only options, right? Or are you in the "we don't choose presidents, they are already chosen by the Senate" boat
Also, democracy has worked elsewhere. And democracy can pair fairly well with families, jobs and even religion (more so than gop imo but let's not go there) so I'm not sure where you were going with this statement. Is the planet saved by people who have the same life as you or something? o.o

/e @#21, true on all counts. I do think point 4 will cause for severe delay during elections so I question the plausibility of implementation.
Also @duckling, I'm not trying to attack or offend here, I am genuinely trying to understand how you can even grow to have a view such as yours, I find it warped tbh but I'm happy to learn about it if you have something with substance to support your ideas

I implied that perhaps you were someone who is of the opinion that presidents are chosen, and not elected, as it is a popular argument very often used by either side of the political spectrum when they have just lost the election. It does not represent what I believe. What I believe with respect to your candidates is that the US citizens are partially responsible for their having to choose between two options of which zero options are palatable. As for Biden, I never cared much for the man because I know too little about his political agenda to have an educated opinion. I'm just happy Trump is out of the office.
