I tip my hat to you. I don't know if people in your earning tier are the ones who are gonna run up the obscene level of debt I believe will eventually exist.

One day I should see if I can get some quantitative numbers regarding new debt post February/March.

I got very lucky that I found a good job when I did. If I hadn't gotten a good job within 3 months of when I did then I likely would have been screwed by lockdowns. Maybe could have gotten a job as a phlebotomist working pick up shifts, but that wouldn't have payed well and would have put me at huge risk for Covid.

Honestly, I still have nightmares about life happening and forcing me to be a janitor again. Genuinely my worst fear (except for the obvious ones, like your whole family dying in a crash) is getting shunted to a low pay high expectation job with no benefits again.

To be entirely clear. The virus is here.

But demand in the service industry is entirely a function of public demand. Brazil is doing OK

Can't dispute this, my career path was definitely not the best should a global pandemic arise.

My thinking wasn't necessarily for my debt to be cancelled, but rather to work as much as possible during this thing as I can to keep the debt as small as possible or hopefully remain caught up. Unfortunately traffic at both has gone down so much that my wages have shrunk more and more each month, so I'm just now falling a little bit behind despite working as much as I can. This is a problem far more severe in Las Vegas specifically than other areas for a few reasons, the first being their commitment to hospitality is super high. During normal times it can be pretty good, moneywise. Before the pandemic I had spent years trying to become better at bartending with the intention of saving money to return to school on my own dime but this thing pulled the rug out of our collective feet.

Another disadvantage is the West coast being fucked, pushing people to move here seeking lower cost rent, goods, etc., which has caused rent to go up much more rapidly while simultaneously seeing wages drop across the board for their core industry.

Like Mr. Sisyphus I'll continue rolling the ball up the hill for now, I guess.

I think you need to rethink where you want to stay to reduce living expenses and to go where you can find work so that your monthly cash flow becomes positive again - with the caveat that you're only doing this to get time/funds to pursue a career that is worth while.

the Custodian of our great and dynamic world
but where the hell do we go from here?
i always rely on the sacred passage to guide me with LED brightness through the darkness of uncertainty: WWTD What Would Trump Do
but what the hell will we do without Trump
the uncertainty is the looming darkness but i believe that His light shall prevail for these next ten thousand years and His Eternal Light will guide us into the next evolutionary period of what we have all worked so hard to achieve and maintain these great and unimpeachable societies of ours now it is up to us he has passed the torch on to all of us to be the bearers and keepers if His everlasting Light

Trades are so underutilized. It takes some time to be an electrician or carpenter but they are respectable positions and there is always a need for them

as we sit in these towers these twin towers of peace and love we consider the past and consider the future, indivisible from one another and gaze upon this land we manicure and question always question and attempt to achieve the solace of knowledge that will once and forever bring peace to the realm
it is in Trump We Trust, but now he is entrusting us. the obligation the burden the responsibility weighs heavy this is undoubted indisputable and uncomprimised and conversely easily fashioned with efficacy and efficiency when we never forget his precedent of honour and valour the hero we needed because he could take it

No debt personally.

Canadians actually have less debt now than they did pre-pandemic on an individual level. Canadians now owe 1.71 for every dollar spent while in 2019 they owed 1.81 for every dollar spent. I shouldn't have to say this, but on average that is. Specifically household average.

I have also managed to save above and beyond my pre-covid rate due to travel restrictions of which I budget 17K a year for. I did pick up an additional ATV but am still under budget by an average of $998 per month at this point.

I am one of those people that take mine and my wife's transactions every month , export to Excel it gets categorized and pulls into a tables based on sumif's , it then determines an over or under spent compared to the monthly budgeted amount for each category. I don't believe in software that does all the work because I think there's significant benefit to actually going through everything yourself each month.

no debt, just saving, actually we are shopping for a house since mortgage rates are extremely low atm.

i work for CN, which is an essential service to the country, so i worked throughout the pandemic/full on shutdown. It wasn't bad though, since i bid for a job that is on call cuz i knew it'd be slow and just collect the full guarantee working once or twice a month, instead of the usual 5 times a week for slightly more pay. My wife is a dental hygienist, so she had few months off work and just collected CERB from the government. We already paid off our 1bedroom apartment, so no mortgage/rent to pay, other than the strata fee/utility bills which are low. She bought a kia forte, so no car payments. I lease cuz i like to switch up my rides every few years, and not pay for the car maintenance fees, so i justify leasing on 0% or ~1% interest for my personal reason. We both used credit cards as soon as we were able to since high school dayz, so that we could build up our credit early on, and pretty much used it like a debit card (spend what we only had, never more) except reap the awesome benefits from the card such as 2%+ cashback, travel insurance etc.

We never liked the idea of loans/borrowing money we don't have, nor the idea of living paycheck to paycheck. With exception of mortgage cuz Vancouver is a fucked up housing market, and getting a mortgage is sometimes cheaper to pay off monthly than renting & helping someone else with their mortgage lol. Plus we get the property as investment, whereas rent you get nada.
