house says we are splitting you up
guess who big tech gets mad at more lmao
The house already had hearings for trying to break up big tech. Amazon, Google, etc. have already spoken on this topic in front of a congressional committee and it is likely that nothing will be done, because they do have competition...it's just that they are spread out across so many industries that they aren't really competing with ONE company, but a battery of companies. For example, Google has competition in the search engine business (I know, not much competition, but some does exist--this is probably the least competitive section of their business, but just for a simple example) from Yahoo and Bing. They ALSO have competition in the video sharing business from TikTok (or they did, I've never used TikTok so I didn't keep up on what happened with that) against their Youtube group. And Google maps competes with iMaps or whatever Apple has, and maybe idk Mapquest or something. So Google has competition all all these fronts, look guys! They definitely aren't a monolith!
The difference is that Google is competing against tens of other companies, while all of those companies are primarily competing against ONE company--Google. But the CEOs can spin that as non-monopoly, and avoid being taken apart.
So it won't happen. Or if it does, it'll be largely meaningless changes.
